Cooking, Clients, and a Real Estate Horror Story

Dinner in the Realtor’s Kitchen

We joined Michael and Tom in their kitchen to see what life looks like after a long day in Boise real estate. On the menu? Chicken stir fry with fresh veggies—and plenty of conversation. “Being a realtor comes with a sense of urgency,” Michael explained while chopping vegetables. “You’re basically on call all the time, and that can create a constant anxiety if you let it. You have to learn boundaries.”

The Strangest Client Encounter

Between prepping chicken and stirring sauce, the couple shared one of their most bizarre client experiences, nicknamed “The Tracy Tacoro Story.” A supposed buyer reached out with a detailed, fabricated life story, complete with a husband, child, and even friends. “It was the real estate version of being catfished,” Tom laughed. “They’d text daily, sometimes flirty, sometimes serious, and even introduced fake ‘friends’ with different phone numbers. We scheduled multimillion-dollar showings only to realize it was all made up.”

It was a painful but valuable lesson. “You feel like a sucker because you’re just doing your job—what if it had been real?” Michael reflected. “Now we’re more cautious, but at the end of the day, it’s about protecting our time and energy.”

Life Beyond Transactions

While the dinner sizzled in the air fryer, the conversation shifted to bigger questions. What would they do if not real estate? Michael said nonprofit work remains a passion, giving a voice to people who need to be heard. Tom, on the other hand, admitted his love of sales runs deep. “I like people, I like to gab, and I love making sure clients have a great experience,” he said with a grin.

The Importance of Home

Cooking together highlighted what matters most: creating a space to connect. “When we built this house, we wanted an open concept kitchen because we love hosting,” Michael shared. “Whether it’s friends, clients, or family, food and conversation bring people together. That’s the same philosophy we carry into our work as realtors—helping people find a home where they can build their own memories.”
